Market Monday: Descendants of Enslaved Communities at UVA

February 7, 2022

Mondays in February – February 7, 14, 21, 28

Market Mondays is the Dairy Market’s program to support local community groups. The Dairy Market partners monthly with a local community group for Dine Out Donations on Mondays.

We partner with one charity or non-profit per month and on Mondays at the Dairy Market guests will be able to add $1 to their orders, with that dollar donated to the month’s selected group, or guests may purchase designated menu items which proceeds go to the charity or non-profit (example: Starr Hill’s LOVE beer).

FEBRUARY MARKET MONDAYS PARTNER: DESCENDANTS OF ENSLAVED COMMUNITIES AT UVA

The Descendants of Enslaved Communities at the University of Virginia, is a non-profit organization
established in 2020 by the Descendants of enslaved and free Black Virginians that built the University of Virginia. The group is a historic first for Virginia as the first totally independent, self-determined organization of descendants associated with a college or university in the state. Their mission is to research enslaved people associated with UVA, reclaim the narrative, and to honor the legacies of the enslaved and free Black communities and their descendants. They are committed to pursuing restorative justice and their commitment to this mission will not waiver.

The Descendants of Enslaved Communities at UVA will serve as the collective voice of all descendants of enslaved and free Black communities who labored at the University of Virginia through research, education, and preservation.
